Home Starting a new Wiki using Wikispace
1. Go to www.wikispaces.com

Choose: FOR EDUCATION. Click on: Create a free classroom now
ENTER YOUR INFORMATION

You are eligible for a free K-12 educational Wikispace account. Use your ludlowps.org email address for this purpose. Choose a name for your wiki: This name should represent what you are using it for.

Examples: chapinroom12.wikispaces.com

artatbaird.wikispaces.com

lhsroom123.wikispaces.com

Once you've filled out all your information click on SAVE.


You have now created a new wiki!

FORMATTING YOUR WIKI: Once you have created your site you will want to format it. Go to SETTINGS on the menu bar.

Click on GENERAL

Choose your APPLICATION TYPE of wiki.
Wikispaces gives us three choices:

Wiki: Classic wiki functionality
Basic website: Looks like a website, edited like a wiki
Classroom: Designed for teachers and students. Includes news feed and formative assessment features.


The other items on this screen are not as important and can be skipped for now.
Click on SAVE.

Click on PERMISSIONS

Choose:

- Public

- Protected

- Private

- Custom

(Private or protected is best for most school settings.)

Click UPDATE.

Click on USER CREATOR

This is the space where you add users to your account. You have two options to create accounts, and with the education plan, your students DO NOT need email addresses.

You can either:
add students in a spreadsheet (.csv, .xls, or .xlsx)

OR

typo a text list of students individually (comma-separated or tab-separated).

Click on LOOK AND FEEL

Here is where you create the color and theme for your wiki. Depending on what type pf wiki you have chosen, your options may look different then this - >

Highlight whatever color and theme you want, and then click APPLY.

This will be the background theme for all pages of your site.

I have focused on the most important areas you need to set up your site. There are other things you can modify or choose in the SETTINGS of your wiki, but these are the crucial ones to get you started.
